Dear ISS Members/Colleagues,
Further to our recent notification regarding the ISS 2020 Barcelona meeting, I am writing to relay that the Society Executive Committee has proceeded with the cancellation of the 2020 annual ISS meeting planned for October 4-9, in Barcelona, Spain. If you made reservations at the Hotel Arts, you should have received a notice of cancelation already. If you require any assistance please contact the Hotel Arts directly or our ISS office at [email protected] for direction.
Although we are all greatly disappointed that we will miss seeing each other and collaborating in-person, this was a decision made in the interest of the health and safety of all Society members, staff and hotel employees. We appreciate the patience of so many members that have inquired for updates, however negotiations with the hotel took longer than we had hoped. Fortunately, with the help of our local organizer; Dr. Eva Llopis, the Veritas team led by Sue O’Sullivan and the ISS Executive Committee, we were able to avoid any financial penalties in conjunction with rescheduling of the event in Barcelona for 2022. So the good news is that we are working on finalizing new dates for October 2022 in Barcelona following our London conference scheduled for October 16th – 22nd 2021.
In addition to cancellation of the Barcelona meeting, all Society related travel including scheduled outreach programs and meetings have been on indefinite hold since early March. We all know these are uncertain times, and we will continue to monitor the COVID situation as it relates to these future live meetings and other activities of the Society.
Despite the cancellation of our events in Barcelona, with technical support of our management team and the volunteer efforts of our members, we are hoping to pivot quickly to develop virtual components of the 2020 Refresher Course, scientific abstracts sessions and exhibits. More information will be available soon as we work hard to solidify these plans.
Thank you once again for your patience as we worked through details pertaining to official cancellation of our meeting this year. Watch for further updates related to our virtual content over the months ahead.
